(04) Jagdwaffe over England, vol. 1

Unit badges and personal emblems were very popular. The former, most frequently of heraldic ancestry, were placed near cockpits. Geschwader and Gruppe staff markings (most in form of various combinations of bars and chevrons) were painted black and outlined in white, ahead of or on either side of fuselage cross. Quick air-to-air identification markings of that period included engine cowlings, wingtips and tailplane tips painted in yellow or white. Some units sported other distinctive markings, like ‘shark jaws’ on Bf 110s flown by ZG 76.
